Andrew Yool is a research scientist in the Marine Systems Modelling (MSM) group at NOC, Southampton.
His research focuses on the role of plankton ecosystems in marine biogeochemical cycles, and he has worked in modelling the ocean’s elemental cycles across a range of physical frameworks, from the global-scale to the Arctic.
Currently, he leads development of the marine biogeochemistry model MEDUSA within the joint NERC-UKMO earth system model, UKESM1, the UK contribution to the next IPCC assessment report.
Within Arctic PRIZE, he will be investigating improvements to MEDUSA’s representation of Arctic primary production as well as providing output from IPCC simulations (CMIP6).
Within DIAPOD, he will be investigating improvements to MEDUSA’s representation of Arctic zooplankton as well as providing output from IPCC simulations (CMIP6).
Within ARISE, he will be evaluating MEDUSA against the more advanced PISCES model to assist MEDUSA’s development for UKESM2 as well as providing output from IPCC simulations (CMIP6).
Andrew is also a co-investigator in the APEAR project.
