Professor Dr Anja Engel

Co-lead investigator, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel

Anja Engel a professor for Biological Oceanography at the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR), Germany. Her research addresses biogeochemical processes, with emphasis on microbial carbon cycling, within the upper water column, at the interface with the atmosphere as well as export processes to the Deep Sea.

Anja is a co-lead investigator in the Micro-ARC project, co-funded by BMBF and NERC.

Within Micro-ARC, Anja will investigate how the quantity and quality of organic matter in the Arctic Ocean, including gel-like particles, change seasonally and in relationship to microbial autotrophic and heterotrophic productivity.

Micro-ARC is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and by NERC.
